The Gill Group of companies are looking for a strong HSQE Manager to:

  • Carry out regular site and operative audits and inspections to monitor compliance with QHSE rules, standards and regulations and produce detailed reports with any necessary remedial actions.
  • Advise on the practical implementation of Safe Systems of Work, Construction Phase Plans and Environmental Management Plans.
  • Investigate and report on all accidents, incidents and near misses looking for root and systemic causes and recommend any remedial actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure that all QHSE reporting requirements are provided accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review of Safety procedures to ensure all relevant legislation is complied with
  • Provide support and advice to any part of the business on Safety & Health issues and to ensure that the Safety & health policies, together with any local guidance are fully aligned in order that no conflict or confusion exists
  • Work closely with and support the operational teams in carrying out their roles and responsibilities for Safety & Health and implementing Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (KSHEMS)
  • Attend pre-start meetings and advise on CDM, welfare, and other high risk activities
  • Advise and assist teams in drawing up risk assessments, safe systems of work and evaluating method statements, using sound and in-depth experience and knowledge of on-site activities
  • Carry out all QHSE tasks as required to maintain the companies ISO9001, ISO14001 & OHSAS18001management systems.
  • Drive to deliver continual QHSE improvements across company.
  • Ensure all QHSE procedures are implemented to enable compliance with all relevant legislation.
  • Support internal and external QHSE audit requirements.
  • Engage with clients, principle contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers etc. to help achieve QHSE targets and objectives


  • Lead or support investigations in accordance with Safety & Health policies and procedures
  • Ensure all SHE lessons learnt events are communicated effectively across the group
  • Ensure that all SHE reporting requirements are provided accurately and in a timely manner
  • Assist the line management in the compiling of accident reports for accidents and providing recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence
  • Update senior managers and directors on SHE issues regularly, and immediately following any serious incidents or enforcing authority involvement
  • Produce Bulletins, Alerts and Information as directed

Training and Competency

  • Assist management in identifying SHE training, promote SHE training programmes and assist in any improvements, and liaising with the Learning and Development team to progress training
  • Assist in developing toolbox talks and briefings on key issues
  • Deliver SHE training courses/Tool Box Talks and briefings where the need arises

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH diploma or equivalent (or demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Ideally experience of Civil Engineering, hazards, risks and associated control measures
  • Working knowledge BS OHSAS 18001, 14001, 9001 Standards
  • Experience in similar or supporting post
  • Experience working understanding of SHE legislation
  • Good oral and written communicator
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to positively influence others
  • Ability to work on own initiative, deliver key objectives while working under pressure and coping with stressful situations
  • Fully conversant with IT
  • A clean driving license and willingness to travel

Salary in the region of £45-£55k dependent on experience along with a company pension and a car allowance.
